I can't help but be bothered by an article I read about a call for animal rights posted by Bangkok Post. Thailand, according to the article, does not have any rights or protection for animals in their existing law. There is not much support either to push legislators in creating one to alleviate cruelty against animals. Take for instance the situation last year of hundreds of stray dogs in a truck heading to neighbouring countries in the northeast of Thailand where eating dog meat is acceptable. You know what punishment was given to the dog traffickers? How about a 500 baht fine or a short-term imprisonment? If the punishment is not that harsh due to no law at all, i reckon more and more poor dogs and other animals will suffer in the hands of these people.
