Smuggled lizards sent back to the Philippines

Six sailfin lizards smuggled out of the Philippines to Hongkong four months ago were sent back home on Thursday by the Hongkong government aboard the Philippine Airlines.

According to the report, these sailfin lizards which are endemic to the Philippines and are ecological equivalent of the Australian water dragon, were seized by the HK authorities, together with Philippine pond and box turtles in February. The latter however were sent back on April 27.

If sailfin lizards are endemic to the Philippines, so as the pond turtles. In fact they are listed as "critically endangered" by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
