When I first saw the photo (on the left) it took me minutes to digest if what I was reading and what I was seeing was true. A boy holding the tail of the shark as they swim? No way! Photoshopped for sure. Sharks are scary even the little ones. Remember Jaws? lol.. But when I read through the entire article, this so called marine nomadism thought to have been disappeared is still happening in South East Asia and never left the region for good.

Enal, a young sea nomad, rides on the tail of a tawny nurse shark, in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Marine nomadism has almost completely disappeared in South East Asia as a result of severe marine degradation. I believe children such as Enal have stories that could prove pivotal in contemporary marine conservation.

Recently, Manila Ocean park released 30 bamboo sharks in Calatagan, Batangas. My 11-year old son and I participated and released two sharks using our hands and with proper guidance from MOP representatives. Sharks are not scary especially the small ones.
Im not sure what marine nomadism is. I will have to research on that but not because we are unfamiliar with something, it follows that we should be scared about it.
