Tarsier Ultrasound Communication

Tarsiers are tiny animals with enormous eyes found only in Southeast Asia. They are nocturnal and said to be one of the smallest primates in the world.

Marrisa Ramsier, co-director of the Biological Anthropology Research Lab at Humboldt State University, conducted a research and studied six tarsiers captured in Surigao del Norte in the Philippines. She told Discovery News that only tarsiers are known to produce and detect high pitched vocalization signals, the highest ever documented so far.

Although tarsiers have the highest pitched primate vocalization, other group of mammals such as rodents, bats, cetaceans, etc; posses this kind of ability too. All of these ultrasound-producing animals can then communicate within their own private "channel," which could prevent detection by predators, prey and competitors. It could also enhance energetic efficiency and improve detection against low-frequency background noise.

Tarsier looks scary because of the big eyes .nocturnal pala sila like owl.talented din pala sila for producing and detecting high pitched vocalization signals.
